What inspired Xavier Portela, in Kobe, Japan, is the atmosphere of a city but on a human scale. In this new series, the photographer offers a slightly different work than the one he presented in Glow. “When I saw Kobe for the first time, I immediately thought it would be a great city for Glow, but when I started the post-production of the pictures, I realized that it did not transmit the atmosphere that I had in my memories. The idea behind Glow has always been to reproduce what we remember of a place and not what we saw of it“, he explains.
Xavier Portela a voulu faire ressortir le côté humain de cette ville japonaise. Pour ce faire, il a voulu y appliquer une idée de chaleur, et « jouer avec un contraste chaud et froid, des scènes sombres et froides mais avec toujours une invitation vers un endroit un peu plus chaud dans l’image. Ce côté cosy et humain qui réchauffe la scène » , ajoute-t-il. Une nouvelle fois, le photographe arrive à retranscrire l’âme de cet endroit et à le partager avec son public.
