In his work, in which he plays with our relationship to time, Leo Caillard “tries to show what we think we know differently, to shake-up our convictions and establish a dialogue between periods”. In his ongoing series “Wave Stone”, he creates marble statues with oscillating curves in their center. In this way, one discovers well-known figures from a different angle. These classic figures are also to be found in the “Hipsters in Stone” series, in which they are adorned in contemporary attire. “The ‘hipster’ trend with long beards, long hair, worshipping the body through sport, all this resembles Greco-Roman characteristics found in statuary. Suddenly, through clothes, our perspective changes dramatically and we cannot fail to see these statues in another light, like individuals today, leading back to our entry in global history“, he explains.
