The Fondation Manuel Ortiz-Rivera in Arles presents the exhibition The Dignity of Gypsies, a series of touching portraits by Christine Turnauer. From 15 April to 9 June, the foundation will showcase the work of the photographer, former assistant to Frank Horvat, who is passionate about the human race, encounters around the world, and the different cultures that populate our planet. This historical and anthropological exhibition traces the roots of the Gypsies from India to Eastern Europe, where the photographer’s many travels have taken her to Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo and Montenegro. The Dignity of Gypsies is also a a book, which was published in Europe in 2017 by Hatje Cantz Publishing and in the United States in 2018 (D.A.P Publishing).
