« Several theme parks appeared in China in 1990, but most of them were closed after only ten years because of their bad management », says Ying Yin. With this unique series, the Shanghai based photographer decided to focus on « America Dream Park » she discovered in her childhood. « Because I visited it when I was younger, I felt like it was a symbol of my childhood. It was the first theme park in China, opened in 1996 and closed only five years after. It is located in the countryside, far from downtown Shanghai. And the only way to get to it is by taking the bus. In 2012, a friend of mine told me that the place was abandoned and the architecture hadn’t been dismantled. I would say I’m kind of obsessed with abandoned places in modern cities because they’re the history and memories of the city ».
