After leaving New York to retreat in an isolated Berkshires church due to a difficult divorce in 2011, famous photographer Gregory Crewdson comes back 5 years later with a series that explores solitude in the woodlands of his childhood. Still with a cinematic and surreal aesthetic inspired a very personal fantastic universe, he gives the series Cathedral of the Pines, featuring 31 images, to the Gagosian Gallery (in New York). We can see lonely men and women in a dark nature, in the middle of a quiet interior belonging to citizens of a deep America and a suspended time. He describes his recent work, done during the year 2014, like an “aesthetic awakening” and applies to depict a dramatic atmosphere for each picture.
