With his Derive’s project, New Zealand photographer Cody Ellingham explores cities around the world during the night. As part of this work, “Shanghai streets”, which is divided in two parts, dives us into the heart of the city’s authentic neighborhoods.

The series started off as a general exploration of the changing face of Shanghai at night, both the old and the new under the red glow of neon lights. But slowly I discovered the theme of the Shikumen lane houses, an old style of house in Shanghai which are slowly disappearing”, explains the photographer, who wanted to immortalize this historic streets “before it’s too late”.
