It is after multiple travels in Europe and South-West Asia, and the desire to share the incredible places he was seeing, that Dietrich Herlan decided to buy his first DSLR. His series « Urban density », is formed with pictures he took while living in Hong Kong. « I was drawn and gained an appreciation with the high-density housing estate, which are usually simple, colorful and incredibly symmetric », says he. One of the most densely populated places in the world. Fascinated by the urban landscape, Dietrich is always looking for geometry and for him, Hong Kong is a perfect place for that. « When I set up my Nikon D810 camera on a tripod looking up with an ultra-wide angle lens by looking straight up I can create a tunnel effect between the building and the sky. Hong Kong Government Housing is the perfect example of this », he concludes.
