In Land of Smiles, New York-based photographer Chris Mottalini pays tribute to overlooked and ordinary aspects of Thailand in three interconnected chapters. Surreal provincial fluorescent street lamps, mazes of Bangkok back streets and alleyways, and strange plants taken at night loosely represent Buddhism’s Three Planes of Existence (Heaven, Hell and Earth). Shot between 2013 to 2015, Land of Smiles is now available in book form, which you can purchase here. Follow him on Instagram.
