One of photographer Bruce Davidson’s first projects was Brooklyn Gang. During the summer 1959, he made contact with a teenage gang of New York called The Jokers. He spent a lot of time observing and photographing them. At that time, he was as young as them and could be mistaken for one of them. By entering their unknown and alienating world, he also witnessed the pain, the frustration and the fear those teenagers were living. His work can be found in a seminal book Brooklyn Gang: Summer 1959 which is now considered as a book for collection.
