In his anachronistic work Gold Rush, photographer Qingjian Meng stages the coexistence of two opposite eras. Characters from the 19th century are posing with technological objects from the 21st century such as an iPad, an electronic cigarette or an audio headset. Through those portraits, the artist explores the contrast between the American economic drive of the mid-19th century with today’s motivations. By doing so, Meng creates a dialog between the two generations. “No matter what era or place people have come from, the human spirit will always strive to create something new building on the foundation of their predecessors”. His pictures are fascinating and always executed with an incredible technical mastery that makes us think of the Realism art movement.
