Through her two series What Real Men Cry Like and What Real Women Laught Like, Maud Fernhout combats different stereotypes on genres. As a feminist, the Dutch photographer has put sexist stereotypes at the center of her work. Each photograph is accompanied by an explanatory sentence such as « For me, crying is not showing your weakness. When I cry, I can accept my feeling and I’m able to continue. It makes me stronger. »
