Atong Atem is a young photographer from South Sudan who lives and works in Australia. In front of her objective her fiends show their faces from Africa too. The scenery created somehow plays with the codes of kitsch, the very standardized presentation in African photographers’ studios is modernized. The juxtaposition of fabrics and the mix of modern and traditionnel elements create an atmosphere slightly nostalgic.
