With the series “The Secret Life of Fruits and Vegetables”, Maciek Jasik shows that fruit has much more to offer than we think.

With these still lifes photographs, the New York-based Polish photographer draws inspiration from the origins of fruit, its mythology, symbolism and connection to culture.

Whether it’s the watermelon used to accompany dead pharaohs on their journey to the afterlife or the peach branches used by the Chinese to ward off evil spirits, the fruits are full of symbols.

The photographer has perforated the fruits and vegetables so that they then release clouds of coloured smoke, giving them a mystical aspect. To learn more about his work, visit his website.
