As every year, the World Press Photo Foundation has announced the winners of its photo journalism competition and has thus elected the photo of the year, from among the thousands of images received from the photo journalists, newspapers and magazines section.

In this busy year 2020, the Foundation has selected the photograph of AFP photographer Yasuyoshi Chiba. Entitled Straight Voice, this forceful image reveals a young Sudanese man reciting a poem about a revolution during the pro-democracy protests in Khartoum, Sudan.

French photographer Romain Laurendeau was awarded the World Press Photo Story of the Year prize with Kho, the Genesis of Revolt. In a series of thirty black and white images he relates the daily life of young people in difficulty in Algeria, this youth which is the symbol of the revolt which has raised the country.
