Artist Rogan Brown creates delicate paper sculptures that are inspired by the biological organisms and organic formations of bacteria, fungi, shells or fossils. His latest work, Magical Circle Variations, is a collection of bacteria-inspired sculptures, crafted from pastel-colored paper and arranged to look like a coral reef.
Citing the parallels between corals and the human body, he says, “We depend on a mutually beneficial relationship with another species: coral only receive their beautiful colours from varieties of algae that live on them, and human beings can only exist thanks to the unimaginably huge and diverse number of bacteria that live and on them.”
The exhibition takes place at the C Fine Art Gallery in New York from July 5-8, 2018.
