Thomas Heatherwick’s design studio, in partnership with Stuart Wood, designed an Unidentified Urban Object. A U.N.O.. At the crossroads of a building, a piece of furniture and a design object, its creators define this structure as an object of art above all, placed at the Hudson Gardens, New York City. Composed of 154 stairs that intersect and intertwine with 80 platforms, entirely pedestrian, this strange hive with indefinite use intrigues and raises questions. Its flared shape invites to climb, to gauge the landscape from above, yet there was no question of creating an observatory, the very use of this art object is intended to change, to adapt to the desires and needs of passers-by.
