The Absolut Company Creation has for mission the promotion of cultural innovations related to electronic music culture. This vocation and a collaboration with French artist Romain Tardy resulted in the birth of the OX machine. This year The Absolut Company Creation asked creatives to imagine a new digital machine. The SUPERBIEN is one of the contestants. Founded in 2007 by Alex Mestrot and Thomas Chosson, the studio SUPERBIEN is specialized in visual and interactive experiences. In the beginning they were a duo of motion designers but they quickly became a studio with a passion for storytelling and the staging of images to provoke emotions. Their first major successes were in video mapping but SUPERBIEN did not stop there. They keep exploring new creative fields to create unique sensorial experiences. Whether it is for corporate event, brand experiences or entertainment, SUPERBIEN collaborates with the best brands or artists and participates in numerous musical events like The Peacock Society, the French festival Solidays, the K-live festival, Birdy Nam Nam and many more.

Dior Haute Joaillerie, Opéra du Château de Versailles, 2016

For this second edition, SUPERBIEN imagined a new machine which makes the invisible visible. Alexandre Le Guillou, real time motion designer and creative technologist, conceived KIMATIK : a machine which can create generative digital sculpture according the music vibrations. Genuine synesthesic concept, KIMATIK will generate in real time a unique visual work based on the set of each DJ. The installation will make tangible ephemeral emotions created by each musical performance. For Alexandre Guillou, « joy, ecstasy, intensity, communion, all these sensations will be possible. KIMATIK will be a medium at the service of the DJ to allow him to express his creativity. » The machine will participate in the construction of creative and artistic experiences mixing visual arts and electronic music. Inspired by his musical references like Recondite and Gesaffelstein, Alexandre Guillou thought the installation in order for it to transcribe the subtlety and delicacy of these artists.

To create Kimatik, the studio took inspiration in cymatics, an esoteric theory which hilights the ability of sound vibrations to draw geometric patterns. Thanks to an algorithm which will analyze the music, the machine will build a visual piece of art on a screen located behind the artist. An ambitious challenge which generated some technical problems as recalls the creator of the machine : « the parameters of analysis and the variables to generate the video work are so numerous that my PC burnt and died ! ». The rôle of KIMATIK won’t stop at making visible sensations and emotions but it will also make durable an ephemeral experience. From each musical performance will result a physical piece of art, like musical fingerprint or the visual memory of a unique and intense moment. The pieces created by KIMATIC will also be printed in 3D and thus come to life in the physical space.

Starting next January, the machine chosen by The Absolut Company Creation will meet the French public to create strong, creative and artistice experiences around contemporary art. The line up is still to be defined.
