In 2010, the American sculptor Warren King decided to travel to China in order to find his roots and to understand his personal history. His grandparents indeed lived in a village where he stayed during several day and exchanged with the inhabitants. When he came back home, he began sculpting cardboard characters representing the people he met and conveying his efforts to know their lives.
