Based on research and interviews by the screenwriter Paul Laverty, who often collaborates with Ken Loach, the movie tells the story of Daniel Blake (a fictional character), a middle-aged widower in the North of England. Victim of a heart attack, he can’t work or get social benefits. He is completely absorbed by an absurd bureaucratique system, strongly denounced by the British film-maker.
