With its “Windwords” project, the Prototype 2030 international design collective is questioning the aesthetics of wind turbines and the place of design in such installations. To embellish wind farms and restore their image to the public (wind turbines are often accused of “energy sprawl” or “industrialization of the countryside”, explains Prototype 2030), the agency offers to invite designers to distill their creativity in their construction, as we use to do with a building or bridge project. With “Windwords”, she imagines wind turbines transforming into giant letters like the Hollywood sign, to form the word “Future”.
