Graphic designer Hang Vo is a visual artist based in Tel-Aviv. During her time as an art student at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, she created the project Passport No., an ode to her origin and roots as a transplanted Vietnamese citizen in Israel. Her father was part of a group of refugees who fled his country by boat after the Vietnam War in 1975. Rescued and granted access to Israel, Hang later moved to join her father when she was 3 years old. For three years, her travel document listed her nationality as ‘undefined’ until she was given her official Israeli passport at the age of 6. It is this gray area of nationality and belonging that Hang explores in the series. She recreates passport photos, stamps, and signatures through embroidery, which serve as reminders of her relationship between her own culture and adopted country.
