In her pieces, Marcy Ellis draws inspiration from flora, the natural world, and the female form. Her artistic world is made of “botanical figures”, which are out of the ordinary and enchanting botanical goddess who has a woman’s body covered by flowers, plants, leaves, and roots. A very poetic and mystic figure that the artist calls “Flora Sisters”, and considers as a “surreal celebration of life”. “They have grown out of many memories and connections to empowering, inspiring women. I draw the body as a vessel, connecting the earth to the soul. I love to research botanical properties and the historical medicinal uses of plants. I take that research and create a figure representative of those properties.”, she explains. Currently residing in the Sonoran Desert, Marcy illustrates and teaches art classes full-time.
