While holding his first solo exhibition in the Mark Christopher Galery, in Toronto at the end of last year, Peter Chan presented his new series “Ideals and Traditions” to the public. In it, the artist is exploring critical themes of East Asia, inspired by his recent visit to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore et Taiwan. In some pieces, Chan offers to see a beautiful work on the matter through the objects or fabrics he is representing, but also in the facial and body expressions of his models. His series documents and analyzes various themes with success, and with a recognizable style: gender ideologies, identity, popular culture, traditions, and superstitions.
