Spanish visual artist María Medem‘s drawings and comics are imbued of mystery and poetry. They are small stories without any word where the protagonists move strangely to draw our attention. Moreover, the nuances of colours carefully selected immerse us into her singular oneiric world for a beautiful journey.
She explains: «I really enjoy creating mysterious scenes, I’m trying to make them as subtle as possible. Also, something that really interests me is studying the body’s movement. Lately, it has been the thing I explore the most when I’m drawing just for fun or for relaxing, and how this human interactions shape the landscape. My aim, most of the time, is to create a certain atmosphere that can slightly alter the viewer’s state of mind. Besides, bold colours are something that helps me to create this scenes. Apart from doing commissioned illustrations, I love creating zines and books.»
