« The project started out as an exploration into rock and mineral materials », says Michael, the director of Dusk, a typography and illustration studio, based in London. In this personal series, the studio’s artists were « trying out some of the new features in Cinema 4D R20 to create organic looking shapes, inspired by absract sculptures and artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Alberto Bañuelos Fournier », he adds. By using three main elements, rock, metals and previously living organic like wood, mushrooms and leaves, the artists offers here unique still-life. « The aim was to create a series of contemporary compositions that had a level of realism but also included surrealistic qualities. This was achieved by the methods used to reveal the sculptures in each animation, and the subtle abuse of gravity throughout the series », he concludes.
