The Japanese art studio, Takeru Shoji Architects Group, has completed its latest installation in the agricultural village of Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture.

The “Hara House”, which acts as a functioning home which houses a single family, was built in the shape of a tent in order to coordinate with the buildings and homes surrounding it. The idea was to make it feel open and inviting to neighbors and guests with wide entrances which make people comfortable stopping in for chit-chat.

Instead of designing a conventional fully self reliant building, we aspired to create a buoyant and bustling hub,” explained Takeru Shoji Architects.
