Great news in the world of advertising and graphism : Mastercard has a new boldly nameless logo ! Conceived by Michael Bierut and Pentagram, the new visual identity follows a well established marketing trend : to do without words in order to empower the symbolic appeal of the company. A technique that brands like McDonald’s already used in some notorious adverstising campaigns. “As the consumer and commerce landscape continues to evolve, the Mastercard Symbol represents Mastercard better than one word ever could, and the flexible modern design will allow it to work seamlessly across the digital landscape.” Raja Rajamannar, Mastercard Marketing Director, explains.

According to some market enquiries led by Mastercard, 80 per-cent of the interviewed people could easily recognize the brand behind the two crossing circles without the help of any slogan. Masterdcard affirms a new statement in favor of a “modern simplicity”, Rajamannar says, and integrate the elite of these international business giants for whom a logo is enough to establish their power.
