For the #WeWearCulture initiative, Google Art & Culture created virtual reality cardboards to be customized by three creative talents who transformed it in their own way.

ELMØ is a multi-disciplinary creative studio based in Paris. It is specialized in pluri-dimensional artworks in 2D, 3D or even Stop Motion.

Their catchy and funny style explores pop culture and give a futurist and in the same time vintage interpretation. The art of ELMØ studio is characterized by a retro-futurist aesthetic full of dynamism and bold colors. The studio is like a scientific laboratory where artists can experiment in every direction. For the Google and Musée des Arts Décoratifs project, ELMØ presents completely dazzling cardboards, giving a totally unexpected vision of this object.

Through these audacious glasses with a strong personality, the creators pay a hommage to the spirit of the eighties. Indeed, fashion of this decade is an infinite source of inspirations for contemporary designers.

De-structured shapes and popping pastel colors give to the item a retro touch with a futurist aspect in the same time. These glasses seem to be already an icon, like if they had been find in a vintage shop. These pieces will be exhibited on June 9 and 10 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

  1. Why did you choose to work on a retro-modern aesthetic ?

The project itself is retro-futurist: we put a high-technological device inside a cardboard box, that’s why retro-futurism came to my mind in the first place, and my work is a mix of vintage and modernism so, everything make sense.

2. According to you, why the eighties have been so important for fashion & art ?

For a creator, this decade is a lesson : you don’t have to be complicated to make something great. Anyway, it’s my generation, I grew up during this time and i think it’s my way to connect again with my childhood.

3. Are you afraid of living in a real/virtual world ?

A bit. Probably because like I said before, I grew up in the 80’s and my generation is the last one who have been grew up without internet, computers and virtuality. So i feel like the new generations will miss that connection with the reality…But I am sure this new generations doesn’t care about that, they just embrace their times, they are not afraid.
