Brand Van Cleef & Arpels imagined an amazing astronomical watch that they named The Midnight Planetarium Timepiece. Besides giving the time, this watch indicates the orbits planets, in real time. It means that Saturn takes 29 years to turn around the dial, Jupiter 12 years, Mars 687 days, Earth 365 days and Mercure 88 days.
Made in 18 carats-gold, with semi-precious stones, each planet is represented with a stone of a different color : Earth is a turquoise, Mercure is a serpentine, Venus is a chloromelanite (kind of jade), Mars is a jasper, Jupiter is an agate and Saturn a sugilite. We can also see a shooting star indicating the hours and of cours the Sun. On the back of the watch, you can see an engraved starry night. The user can define his “lucky day” and on that special date, Earth goes directly underneath the graved star on the sapphire crystal to symbolize good fortune. This jewel is sold at 225 000$.
