For the past fifteen years, German artist Volker Hermes has been revisiting famous portraits paintings by hiding their mouth, their eyes or their entire face through photomontages. His “Hidden Portraits” project allows us to focus on something other than the people’s faces and emotions, to pay more attention to clothes and fabrics which also include many details. Suffice to say that since the global pandemic and the obligation to cover half of our faces with a mask, his artworks have been taking on a new dimension.
