Since a few weeks, the East River in New York is illuminated by a cross-shaped floating sculpture. Designed by Playlab Inc. and Family New York Partner with Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the + Pool Light is made of LEDs and measures 50 by 50 feet. Not only design, the artistic and luminous sculpture changes color depending on the water quality. In real time, the installation collects data such as clarity, temperature or pH of the water, and broadcasts it on an online dashboard.

Open since October 4, the + Pool Light – which is a positive symbol in the efforts to improve the quality of water – will remain on the East River until January 4.
