Merging street art and ceramics, artist Pablo Savon challenges the our perception of vandalism by turning graffiti into 3D ceramic forms in his latest project, Art or Vandalism. Often seen as a nuisance, a form of public degradation and even a crime, Savon set out to test the public’s reaction to graffiti by recreating the deviant act, but carried out in a different manner. Installing his ceramic graffiti versions around Paris, he later noted that three days after, the normal graffiti had been painted over, while his own version remained untouched. “Can ceramics, by its nature, alter our concept of vandalism?” he muses. “How is it that a simple change of material can modify our perception of this act?” Take a look at the images below and tell us what you think.
