Hülya Özdemir paints portraits of women Born in Istanbul, Turkey, the artist endows her characters with multiple vibrant colours and very long hair, almost like clouds above them. What guides her is the various struggles women lead to existing in societies still dominated by men. «[They are] imprisoned in a role based on maintaining norms of society: tradition, morality, and family», she adds. Then in the painter’s works, women take their place, gain confidence, become bold and radiate within these imaginary and effervescent worlds.
