These colorful paintings made by Kate Wadsworth are a part of two of different series called « East to West » and « 28 summers ». The first one, is a collection of landscapes inspired by a trip she took a couple of years ago, accross the United States. The second one is based off her recent move back to her hometown, Hawaii, after many years away. « They are nostalgic interpretations of my childhood and adolescence growing up in my island home », she says.

All of them are done in acrylic and colored pencil on wood panels she build herself. « I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a kid. I’ve always loved it, it’s like an itch that needs to be scratched. I always keep a sketchbook with me wherever I go. It serves as a journal, as well as a way to sketch an interesting person or scene that might become a bigger painting later », she adds.

Kate stutied communication arts and got her BFA at Virginia Commonwealth Univerity in Richmond, Virginia. Henceforth, she does freelance illustration and graphic design for a living. « Drawing and painting can be very meditative, sometimes more frustrating than relaxing but that’s the process. Illustration and design is a lot of problem solving. Once you find that solution or finish the painting, it’s so satisfying. That keeps me going ».
