“Ornithocide” is a series by Steven Spazuk who makes soot paintings : smoke’s dust that he manipulates after burning a bit the paper. Through the expression “a canary in a coal mine”, he wanted to recall the death of millions of birds since the industrial revolution and also the dead men stuck in the coal mine.
