Mike Butler’s path towards an absolute refinement of the photographic images has been one of single minded dedication.
The best camera is the one that’s with you, every day. Photography does not reproduce reality, but gives his own interpretation of the world around us. Seizing a moment, stopping the time, leaving to others the subjective view of a fregment of life. Blue Sky Project was born from the awareness that new technologies open up the possibility of imagining new creative paths. A trip to Spain, the simplicity of a moment, shots of the fleeting sky by the click of a cell phone.
Blue version
Dark version
Colored version
The Blue Sky Project came to life as a personal bet: could images taken with a simple cell phone capture the eye as well as those taken with a professional camera? The notion of breaking the traditional barriers of photography, where only images taken with professional equipment are appraised and judged, is what fascinated me about this challenge.
As an Erasmus student in Bilbao, I traveled to Spain’s most beautiful and exquisite places and discovered what this iconic European country had to offer. My journey led me from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan cities such as Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia to the rolling hills and pastures of small rural towns including Palencia, Teruel and Bakio. During my travels, I kept an eye out for striking compositions of Spanish culture: small fragments of cities, famous monuments, hidden corners, plants, buildings, flags, bridges and churches.
Once I returned home the idea of creating a horizontal photographic composition came to mind. The color Blue would become the dominant hue, followed by Dark and Colored versions to create a colored threesome presented either horizontally or vertically. From more than eight thousand photos taken in one single year, two hundred and four were selected and assembled.
After reviewing them all, I realized that many of them could acquire greater expressive value by being displayed in complimentary pairs. Unknowingly, all the photos I had shot photo had a great deal of similarities in composition, shape, form and theme. A project that I hope matches the curiosity of an audience looking for new ways to interpret photography.

Moe (modular screen) is a light and video augmented sculpture, based on a single building element that can form an array of different, adjustable and reusable stage designs for club events and concerts. Dynamic structure that comes from the fact that elements come together at a 45 degree angle allows Moe to function well even as a standalone light object, a virtual kinetic sculpture.

This spring Zona Tortona will literally be the playground of the guys from
La Bolleur for five days since they decided to bring their Mini Golf Club abroad!
During the Milan Design Week you’ll find their space at Via Vogehra 11 in Milan, Italy.Make sure that your practise is up to Par!
It has been 5 years since Timon van der Hijden, Zowie Jannink and
Steie van Vugt decided to change the scene at La Bolleur - a former brothel
in the city of Eindhoven. They literally transformed this inglorious lounge and
made it their own by undertaking major creative projects which the city of
Eindhoven never experienced before.
La Bolleur revived and instantly became a very
honourable cultural meeting place where people could get together.
The atmosphere was set by establishing a fully operating (pop up) restaurant
for two years in a row, plus a legendary comedy night with Hollands’
leading comedians. As well as the many performances by musicians and DJ’s,
numerous movie nights and exhibitions before this re-established lounge was demolished.
In the meantime La Bolleur had become a multidisciplinary collective
with a fun sense of self esteem and with five new members;
Cris Bartels, Bram Burger, Ivo J. Daniëls, Mark van Gennip and Frank Winnubst.
A new location presented itself rather quickly in the form of an abandoned farmhouse in the city
centre of Eindhoven that was renamed - of course - La Bolleur.
It comes as no surprise that this collective with their ‘hands-on’ mentality,
appeared on many events all over the Netherlands and even exhibited at the ‘Salone del Mobile’
in Milan. There, they were also responsible for the infamous unannounced party in an empty pool
where thousands of people were present.
Today La Bolleur is more visible than ever, especially
after winning a Dutch Design Award in 2009 for their excellent method of communicating their brand.
La Bolleur presented itself as a mini golf club; with a self constructed nine hole course and a clubhouse with bar.
With a theme like mini golf, which appeals to many people La Bolleur proved again that they can also serve a more
broad and diverse audience and even create events that perhaps seemed out of their league…

The emblematic chair Lola by Capdell is dressed up with its best outfit: flamenco dresses and shawls for these chairs as a tribute to the design “Made in Spain”.
The chair Lola, with wooden legs and structure, and a seat of foam injected, has been upholstered with typical flamenco-looking textiles: red with white spots and velvet and fringes.
Capdell creates all its chairs and armchairs for interior design and for the contract sector in Valencia, Spain. This way, the firm guarantees the best quality in all products by keeping a close look to their making process. This is a design by Vicente Soto for Capdell. www.capdell.com
