Recycling Clothing Art

what about us in africa who have no cloths?
why cant you recycle it to us or even better yet let us use that cloth to make blankets since we have none and not much food either!

  18. Erin21.07.2010 at 21:14

yes lets use all our leftover clothing on crappy art rather then giving it all to homeless people and people in need. there are tuns of people in Africa that don’t own a single shirt but its way better to use 50 of them to make a rainbow tree right? fuckin ridiculous

  19. Blerx22.07.2010 at 2:38

Boltanski peut aller se rhabiller !
    (elle est facile… :p)

  20. Troup22.07.2010 at 3:01

To all the people going on about those in need of clothing, get off your high horse. The issue is not a lack of clothing, its a lack of supply. Just because someone created art pieces with these clothes does not suddenly mean a bunch of African children will never see clothing, there are many more relevant examples of greed in wealthy developed countries than this. Nobody is giving you a nobel peace prize for reminding us all that there are bad things in the world.

  21. thedude22.07.2010 at 4:47

These are the pastimes of wealthy, fatted and idiotic people who would do better using their creativity to find means of channeling that excess time and money towards better usage. Helping the under privileged is what you should do.

Superbe travail! J’adhère moins aux photos avec “l’enfant’ car l’idée des vétements recyclés ne transparaît pas mais vraiment géniale sinon.

  28. Jessica3.08.2010 at 0:17

I totally agree with you Erin…I mean is it really necessary to create a rainbow out of clothing instead of putting it to actual use and helping people who truly need it. Do you realize how many people could put clothing on their backs if you donated all of that? It’s ridiculous. Get a new hobby or stop being so selfish.

  29. Diva Dee20.08.2010 at 12:54

Maybe most of you are missing the point. ART. Nough said

  30. Teej...20.08.2010 at 14:54

    Double rainbow all the way

  31. Caitlin21.08.2010 at 12:05

Uh. This is recycling? Looks like you’re making huge piles of shit all over the place. A lot of these clothes look like they could have been given to the homeless. There are some things more important than your faggy rainbow art, you know? Like people who are without clothing and food.

  32. jess22.08.2010 at 8:40

THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!!!! imagine all the people that could have bettered from that!!!!

  33. MissDiscipline27.08.2010 at 17:04

I too thought this is boring and a waste…sorry but I was expecting to see clothes used for something better (more useful) than this and even as art it just didn’t have that wow factor for me. Recycle does mean to re-use but this wouldn’t stand a chance in an art showing.

  34. pissedoffgirl31.08.2010 at 6:21

how many articles of clothing do you think that is? i think there is enough there that africa or some other continent / countries can use. i mean fine that looks cool and it’s creative, but it is a waste.

  35. evavstheworld31.08.2010 at 7:45

How dare anyone create something beautiful to inspire people. And worse yet, out of recycled clothes. Why couldn’t the artist just spend even more money and use plaster, wire, metal, or any other medium? He( or she) just had to had to be insensitive to all of those who can’t afford clothes. Or better yet, why not just not create anything at all. I mean, it is a waste.

The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life. ~William Faulkner

  36. bernusse31.08.2010 at 8:32

I want to wear it! All of it! Suits of color!!! Beautiful.

  37. Linda Hicok31.08.2010 at 17:19

Really cool. I was very disturbed by all the people complaining about the medium the artist used. Goodwill and other charties send tons of clothing to those countries. As was demonstrated in Haiti, it is organization of distribution that keeps donated supplies from getting to the needy. I think the artwork and concept, and use of the medium is fantastic.

  38. Jaylin11.09.2010 at 22:09

To everyone who is concerned about this being a waste of clothing…

Do you really think Paris Hilton has less in her closet?
If you care THAT much, sell your Gucci boots and buy 600 shirts at the Salvation Army for the kids in Africa.
Honestly, this is about as much clothing per large piece of art as if every one kid from your high school had just ONE item of clothing that they never wore.
    This is BEAUTIFUL art.
    Disagree?
    Go start a charity.

  47. Brooks Smith5.11.2010 at 2:47

Thank you Jaylin for that. I agree with you. Everyone out there saying that this is a waste of clothing should send a few of your own clothes to those kids in Africa. I think this is amazing art, but if your going to bitch and complain about this maybe you should take a plane to Africa right now instead of spending your time looking at websites like this.

  48. skd20.11.2010 at 17:41

its pretty but i really hope they donate those clothes too otherwise thats not recycling clothes, thats just wasting them

  49. brobinson21.11.2010 at 0:25

    Beautiful ART.

If any of you have ever been involved in donating to charity (!), you’d learn in a hurry that they don’t want our old clothes. The charities have to PAY to ship the crap to Africa or Haiti or wherever and this takes away money that is desperately needed for food and medical supplies.

    Get a life you morons.

Really cool pieces. The rainbow looks like it took a long time to construct.

  63. lily23.02.2011 at 17:00

This is such a waste. I love art, but was it necessary to use 1000s of clothing? These shirts and pants could have gone to something much more meaningful–protecting someone’s body and life. To the people who aren’t disturbed by this and are making up reasons why it’s “no big deal”, it’s people like you that are causing hunger and poverty. We can ALL make changes, no matter how small they are.

Just a shout out to the person who specifically said “get over it”, how about you get over the fact that there are people that aren’t selfish bigots.

  64. movers1.03.2011 at 2:05

@ Lilly - I know what you mean, thousands of clothing seem like a waste but they are used so I guess the artist did recycle them.

I think this is a great use of recycled material.

To those who are bleeding hearts, Its art.

And clothing to haiti? who knows what these clothes looked like before he/she got a hold of them! they could have been rags. Who knows? no one. So get off your high horse. He could have taken clothes from the places that send clothes to haiti that weren’t worthy of the haiti people, dyed them, and used them in his/her art.

opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has one. So pull your pants up.

  69. lise8.03.2011 at 7:49

these clothes appear completely intact. those rainboots, the jackets, ties, pants, sweaters, etc. besides, you’re saying that a shirt that has a hole in it shouldn’t be given to someone who needs clothing? i doubt they wouldn’t think its not good enough for them. these clothes should have been properly recycled and donated to people who truly need them. they are not in that bad of condition that they couldn’t be worn.

  70. organdonar9.03.2011 at 5:59

They probably donated them after the exhibit closed or the photo shoot was over. Don’t be such a downer.

  71. Farrah Hope12.03.2011 at 8:39

Don’t you think there are about a million better ways to use those clothes? Think about how many people either go without or wear the same clothes for weeks at a time. They should be given the clothes, not made into some pointless models

  72. Emily21.03.2011 at 5:19

this is really awesome and everything, but those clothes shouldn’t be wasted, and should be distributed to the needy people in the world. this is wasteful.
i admire the time and effort that was put into this, but it’s really just a waste of money. can someone really purchase these pieces to display in their homes? does it serve any purpose? I appreciate the art because, yes, it is unique and incredible, but overall, it’s silly.

I admit, this is fantastic! But these clothes could also be used for something more… not practical, exactly, because art is practical in it’s way, but for something more beneficial, maybe. Like, donating them to homeless people who have no clothes.

To those who are saying they should be caring more about the children in Africa. Please donate your computer your using at this very moment and I sure hope you don’t have an iPod or iPhone or anything else of value or you should sell that too. Then send the money to those in Africa who have no food. Oh, I hope you didn’t just eat a big meal…you need to have a cup of rice and send the rest of your food to Africa please.
