Ajouter le votre ?I see the video a little bit discerning.
I want to see a video like that about europe and the usa for comparing…
An i got one question: how many chopstick are used in china??? ;)
( Sorry but I speak no french, im a german ^^ Google-Translate ftw! :P )
It was funny at the beginning then started a little disturbing.
Too much criticism, almost making fun of their culture.
From what I know, they are ecology conscious just as European and dislike wasting, in fact there is a word Mottainai, means wasteful and I often heard it while I was there.
japan is beautiful. this video shows great discrimination to its culture. go knock yourself out .
This short film missed a lot of good opportunities to call out actually unique and strange elements of Japanese culture; like eating squid while they’re still alive. The Japanese language is also unique in that you can speak it in, I believe, 4 different styles. How about cultural differences? Of course, not all of this is « strange ». Japanese eyes are not exactly « smaller » either; this could also be said of Chinese or Taiwanese.
Waste and suicide and chopsticks… these are all things that are even worse in the United States and beyond. The notion of a country’s wealth and waste somehow bestowing happiness is also naive. Besides that, Japan’s economy has been struggling in the past few years (like everyone else). I really like the style of the animation and voiceover, but the content was ultimately disappointing.
Ive always enjoyed these stylized info animations but their nature lends itself best to very specific topics that can be covered quickly. This presentation started out well enough but became aimless as it tried to cover whole groups of topics at random. The voice-over and animation script was not very tight and neither part was given enough rein to dictate the pace, one running over the other with unnecessary talk or animations. Also social consciousness is important as a counter point but the criticisms came across as heavy handed and there was a bizarre, morbid undercurrent to it all. Every topic was punctuated by death or some kind of suffering. the whole of it ending on the note of suicide. As a matter of focus if all you really wanted to talk about was social pressures and similar issues in Japan you should have done that and skipped the rest.
How insulting this video is, especially to turn blind sided to so many other facts in Japan that seems to balance out what this video is trying to say. I am not Japanese but it seems the tone of this video is a bit condescending, biased and insulting. Really typical of an outsider’s view. Should have been titled « Japan-A narrow look, hence its strange place »
Why does it focus on looking down on the Japanese? It’s bias hence racist. Comparing food waste, chopsticks made from China, etc. without comparing to other nations is just naive. This type of editing is very very sad, and the tone of the video with angels and splat suicide is very narrow minded and naive…ironic because this video is suppose to educate. Its obviously some people just want to make a « cool » factual video with no sense of real reporting. Naive all the way.
@Sliver: China and Korea reuse their chopsticks since they are made from plastic or metal. Japan has a tradition of always using wood.
But yes, I do find this article a bit too discriminating and malicious
how can a video made by a japanese man about japan be racist? because of twits like you and many others on this page and other pages calling him racist about his own damn country he has taken the english version down, get over yourselves.
ok at first, then got more and more superficial and biased. for example, the high suicide rate doesn’t warrant « i guess a healthy economy doesn’t necessarily make a happy country. » maybe it’s an honor issue, sometime valued above personal happiness. also, what’s with the « do you see what i mean when i say japan is a strange country? »?? what, is japan full of aliens? the music/mood all of a sudden becomes so conspiracy theory. this video would have done better just presenting the facts, without the distorted commentary.
The video is very well done, but like some other comments I found it drifted into the offensive. All western countries waste food, and all western countries import massively from China.
I spent 4 months travelling through Japan from top to bottom, and 1 month living in Tokyo. I’m not sure that the author of the video has ever been, otherwise they would have had a lot more interesting things to say. For example, the entire country is kept immaculate – I don’t think that I saw any litter while I was there. This is partly due to a cultural taboo against eating or drinking while walking, meaning that the only place that they need public bins is outside convenience stores. Did it even mention the obsession with hot baths? To be honest I skipped through a bit.
This video isn’t racist!! it was made by a japanese guy actually, so i guess it’s self criticism, what’s wrong with that?…
I too found this video more disturbing than informative or insightful. It feels like a complete outsiders look at Japan, and I’m surprised to read it was made by a Japanese person. Also, it seems to wander completely off topic at times, such as the statistics of people dying from starvation, and healthy drinking water, which are unrelated topics. How about discussing the obsession with novelty, youth and impermanence? These seem like more fundamental issues, but I guess harder to put in an infographic. I realise this was supposed to be a brief and humorous glimpse at a country, but is seems way off.
Ok, the graphics are really great, but what is it with the content??? I found it totally full of prejudice. And as someone said before: very naif. Looking at the number of people that loved this video, I can see how strong can the images be… Be careful…
i commend the maker of the video. it is downright truthful. it doesn’t just show the good things about japan (like others would usually do, and leave out the REAL picture), but presents the other side — the « ugly » or « unpleasant » side of the country up to the present time.
A perfect example of well-done animated graphic can manipulate people really easily; Since there are more than 90 people liked it.The content of this video;came out of a personal frustration of the irritated author and it’s quite useless points not even updated for today.
The video is how others looked at a stero typical Japanese. Indeed we can make similar videos about other countries.
One thing I have to add. You forgot to add animation and manga. Typically, for most countries, both catagories are for kid entertainment. However, in Japan, these kind of entertainment goes beyound kid entertainment.
@JackC – sorry – it’s rubbish content & script.
the illustrations & animation ideas are great, wish you have taken a more objective view though.
i love how people are calling this discriminating and racist and untrue when a japanese man made the video. which for some reason he has removed from the internet. probably because a bunch of know it alls like the ones commenting here think they know everything about Japan. Try living here dumbasses and you will see allot of what he said about his own country is true.
They left out the part about the bombarding pornos produced by jap every yr, and the fact that they were the ones responsible for evoking WW!! Insanely killed and slaughtered over a million ppl …. strange paranoid country for sure..

Superbe!
