These pieces are created on maps with personal significance; the first was on a map of San Francisco used by the artist when she first visited her university, Berkeley. The features of the map itself form the portrait; a division between land and water may echo a facial profile. Outlining and shading existing regions of the map forms ink layers. The art process merges with the physicality of using a map for direction; the artist shapes and is shaped by the place, artistically and experientially.
