Alienina + Piloh, an object’s second life
Milan Design Week 2010
Two designers open the doors to their home inviting visitors into a creative universe in which daily life and art both co-exist and infect one another. It’s an exhibition which doesn’t in the least distort the domestic space but one that mingles easily, taking advantage of the empty corners, the most unusual, unexpected areas.
The house becomes a theatre in which art appears on stage through performance and events, talking to the objects of daily life. The collections on display are made up of unique pieces, all handmade, and explore the confines of art, design, handicraft and fashion with one common denominator in mind: sustainability.
The designers have salvaged ‘poor’ materials and old discarded objects giving them a renewed lease of life and a new ‘look’. This is an invitation to reflect on the objects which surround us because anything can have a second life: old water pipes can be turned into lamp structures; cords, ropes and cables can become con- temporary jewellery.
