Cardboard Computer

Recompute designed this eco-friendly, durable cardboard computer case. It’s a do-it-yourself kit which is built out of layers of cardboard. To construct it, the package comes with non-toxic glue: there is no use of other materials like metal screws or plastic parts.

Cute idea, but the reason you make computers out of metal is for two main reasons…heat dissipation and moisture avoidance. Even Acrylic cases have overheat issues, I only can imagine how bad this one would be.

Jomathan: The brand producing these cases is called ‘Recompute’, google gave me: http://www.sustainable-computer.com/

yah. the only difference is, that acrylic cases are superairtight. compared to this this cardboard case has an extreme possible airflow through the channels of the layers.
i somehow dont like the brownish appearance, but i dig the “do it yourself” thought on modern computer cases.

I created a cardboard computer case years ago when I was working as a packaging engineer for a cosmetics company. I was making wrapped setup boxes, similar to Tiffany’s little blue boxes. It’s very easy to do. They look cute. But there is a reason we don’t put electronics in paper boxes. FIRE!!! FIRE DUMBASS!!!

Metal cases are for electrical grounding too. I imagine components could get fried without proper grounding to a metal chasis.

Hello guys and gals I am a new user. Well I have been reading for like the past 2-3 weeks but I wanted to create an account to ask a question. My question is, in a couple of days I will be traveling and I might have limited internet access. I want to be able to still browse the forums. I am just wondering are we allowed to save all or most of its pages on a large drive? So that I can read and learn while I have no internet access? Can we do this or is it against the rules? I tried to read the TOS but could not find anything relating to this issue.
