Thomas Tyman has made his mark with a new advertising campaign Orange Origami for Publicis Wam.

From the previous ad campaign, a new dimension was injected into the origami concept: filming frame by frame, the live projection of real images onto the origami as it was evolving.

For the first film, Orange First, we shot a sequence in live action tracing the everyday life of an architect. This sequence was then projected on to the white paper origami as it evolved into the shape of a cup. The origami transformation steps were filmed in stop motion with a Canon 5D camera. We were affronted with several details and imperfections as the process proceeded, lending more authenticity and originality to the film, something that we wouldn’t have got if we’d created everything in full 3D.

For the second film, Orange Star, we used the same technique as on Orange First. But this time we entirely created 30″ of animated film, over 5 weeks, working with 10 graphic artists both in traditional animation and in 3D,that was then projected onto the evolving star shaped origami.

A very unusual and challenging project, combining traditional techniques and new technology, which is totally in line with Wizz Design’s innovative spirit!
