SAKS 5TH AVENUE  is one of the biggest luxury specialty stores in New York City. The PAUW  boutique is located on the second floor, alongside the collections of other prestigious designers such as Chanel, Giorgio Armani, and Stella McCartney.

  The goal was to create a sober and welcoming image that could hold its own alongside the dazzling signs surrounding it.  The entire window display was removed in order to open up the shop as much as possible to the hallway. The threshold definitively marks the entry to the shop by highlighting the contrast between the wood and white tones of the flooring and, inversely, of the ceiling.

   The boutique designed by PLANDA  distinguishes itself with a large mirror 3.5 meters high, creating the feeling of being in an enormous fitting room.  The space is also punctuated by several Stockman mannequins, as found in haute couture studios.  

The primary purpose of Shiny Hammer is the creation of furniture for your home. At the border between use and art, the brand’s aim comes from the desire to create unconventional and timeless objects.

As a couturier or an architect would do, each creation becomes a representation of a lifestyle, an environment or a culture.

PLEE CHAIR

This chair is the result of a manufacturing process developed by Shiny Hammer called C.I.M.

It is aimed at using a bending process which is rough yet sophisticated.

The end result is unpredictable, although controlled. As a result, each chair is unique.

Made of aluminum, steel, fiberglass and foam.

TILE LIGHT

This fixture is the perfect fusion of two domains : crafts and computing. It is composed of 570 aluminum parts that are laser-cut and assembled one by one by hand.

The lighting is composed of three light bulbs that project light towards the floor and through all the facets.

LOOP STOOL

This re-interpretation of a familiar shape of stool makes this design both iconic and endearing. This object can be both used as a stool or as a side table.

All Shiny Hammer products are handmade in France and signed with a blazon. The creations are developed and produced by the french designer Samuel Aguiar.

Mon but avec la création de ce produitétait de mettre au point un luminaire indépendantque l’on a envie de déplacerdans son intérieur. Constitué d’un piètementen contreplaqué de bouleau et d’undiffuseur en Polypropylène, il s’articule deplusieurs manières afin de mettre par exempleen avant un élément posé sur la base.Dans d’autres cas il permettra d’éclairervers le plafond à la manière d’un halogène,ou encore d’animer une surface murale.A mi-chemin entre un luminaired’ambiance et une petite lampe sur pied,il se pliera en huit pour trouver la positioncorrespondant à l’utilité que le particuliervoudra en faire.

La marque Restoration Hardware propose une collection de bagages et meubles dans leur boutique. En plus d’avoir un design très réussi, ces créations sont en réalité des rénovations de meubles appartenant à un ancien voyageur du nom de Tom Richards.

Woodstock est un canapé, né de la participation du studio Aparte au projet de la Villa Déchets à Nantes, dont la fabrication ne nécessite que des matériaux de récupération et offre la possibilité d’un produit reproductible en série. Woodstock s’inscrit parfaitement dans une politique de design responsable.

Fabriqué à partir de bois de palettes recyclées, le canapé s’accompagne de deux satellites permettant de passer de deux à quatre places. La valorisation des déchets, tout comme la réduction des surfaces habitables sont les deux problématiques ayant inspiré sa conception.

Le banc public Flow répond à un cahier des charges précis émis par la province de Luxembourg (Belgique) mais se veut universel par les solutions qu’il apporte.

Léger et modulable son installation ne demande quasiment aucun travaux d’aménagement. Son principe constructif (2 pieds indépendants reliés par des textiles technologiques) permet une installation propre à chaque configuration de lieu. Les matériaux du piètement et de l’assise se mettent en valeurs par le contraste qui les oppose. L’assise se voulait souple et d’une nature textile pour amener un confort inédit (textile néanmoins renforcé pour lutter contre toute dégradation liée à une utilisation publique). La structure en acier moulé et brossé, se déploie de manière sculpturale et présente un intéressant jeu d’ombres et de reflets.

Ont été dessiné un module bas (servant d’assise) et un module haut (servant d’assise-debout ou de dossier quand associé au module bas) qui peuvent être installés indépendamment ou combinés de diverses manières suivant les exigences du lieu et du service que l’on veut offrir.

Lauréat du concours pour lequel il fut créé, ce mobilier fut exposé à 2 reprises et est à l’étude pour une hypothétique mise en production…

La chaise Katra est la dernière née du studio Aparte. Entre démarche de style et expérimentation sur les matériaux, le projet à vu naître un composite singulier à base de fibres de ramie.

L’emploi de matériaux composites offre des perspectives créatives singulières dans le domaine du mobilier notamment en termes de formes, textures ou usages innovants. Cependant, l’impact écologique et sanitaire lié à l’utilisation de tels matériaux reste problématique. Un composite d’origine naturelle s’imposait alors et la ramie présentait des propriétés mécaniques plus qu’intéressantes. Cette fibre, issue d’une variété d’ortie figure parmi les fibres naturelles les plus résistantes; elle possède des qualités comparables voir supérieures aux fibres de verre.

Côté esthétique, le design se veut minimaliste, les lignes de Katra évoquent les qualités intrinsèques du matériau : résistance, légèreté, dans une définition formelle que seuls les composites peuvent respecter.

Just Fold It is flexible, easy to assemble and disassemble, and the individual models fold compact making them convenient to store or transport. The length of the screen can be adjusted by adding or subtracting the number of modules. Perforations on the surface increase stability by counteracting wind resistance in addition to varying the porosity which creates a nice visual effect that varies depending on the angle and distance from which it is viewed.
