Prison has traditionally been seen as a lonely place, though you have never seen the presence of company quite like how it is displayed in Behance creator, David Altrath’s, photo series entitled “JVA” — the German abbreviation for the term ‘Justizvollzugsanstalt’.

In the German language, this is another word for a prison authority figure who carries out prison sentences.

Over the course of a few months, Altrath took time to photograph some of the most diverse jails around Germany in cities including Freiburg, Heilbronn, Offenburg, and Rottenburg.

As you can see, perhaps privacy is something of a hot commodity in places like German prisons.
