Strobist summary: D-Lite 4, 4/6th power, fired by PW into 50" soft box camera left. SB-28, 1/8th power, fired by PW into translucent umbrella camera right. D-Lite 4, 4/6th power fired into silver umbrella at white wall. Lighting Information: As part of a new project at work we needed some updated staff shots. Always happy to get a chance to break out the lights during work hours I volunteered for the assignment! :) The first person to step up to the plate was Charles, one of my two bosses. The last good shot we had of Charles was from about ten years ago so his company portrait was well overdue for an update. Part of the brief for this project was to get some more 'light hearted' pictures so after doing a few stiff formal shots Charles took off the suit jacket, swapped his tie for a cravat and produced his 'Engine Driver' hat. This is one of the head shots near the end of the shoot. As Charles was only paying a flying visit to the office, I set the lights up using Lilly as a stand in. I went with my new DIY 50" soft box as the main light and used an SB-28 fired through a translucent umbrella for fill. I had a second D-Lite 4 to light the white wall, but I did not have another softbox with me to control the spill. I improvised with a silver umbrella which I angled back towards the wall to light it best I could. I did end up having to touch out grey edges on most of the pictures, but I did get a good splash of white behind Charles head.
