Strobist

Carrot Setup

Strobist Information: This is my first test shot using my new DIY square ring flash. I decided to start with something simple and raided the fridge to dig out this humble carrot. For the shot, I suspended the carrot from a reflector holder by a black cotton thread tied to a pin pushed into the carrot. To stop the carrot from spinning, I attached a second thread to the bottom of the carrot and held it down with a weight. The main light is the ring flash in front of the carrot. This is a single SB-28 on half power pushed into the ring flash box. To the left and behind the carrot is a gridded SB-28 on 1/16 power to provide some rim light. Finally there is another SB-28 on 1/2 power with a green filter pointing at the seamless white paper background. Just before I took the shot I sprayed the carrot with water to bring out the orange. I removed the strings in Lightroom and boosted the dark vignette around the outside of the frame. Picture here: The Humble Carrot Learn how to light: www.strobist.com
