¤ On White ¤ Cracker Lake is a little over six-mile, one-way hike from one of the eastern trailheads at Swiftcurrent Lake in the Many Glacier section of Glacier National Park. The trail follows Canyon Creek for a good portion of the six miles. This area is farther north and east of the ever-popular Going-To-The-Sun Road. If I could go back, I would spend more time hiking around Many Glacier, as its sights and destinations are fantastic. The first glimpse of Cracker Lake is cleverly planned, partially because of the trail's path, and partially because of the mountainous terrain. After several hills and small kinks, the first view of the lake is a spectacular vista overlooking the mile-length of the lake. Everything at the far end of the lake appears quite small, but rest assured--it's not. The white mass at the end of the lake are the remnants of the still-active Siyeh glacier, which is quite large up close. paulomernik.com
