Taper Pinch
Kristina Lewis Taper Pinch used high-heeled footwear, epoxy putty, acrylic, adhesive 21 x 7 x 4 inches -Lewis dissects worn women's footwear, reformatting commercial goods into unspecified creatures. Are they insects, flying rodents, birds or aliens? Emancipated from their former life as aesthetic extensions of the female leg, they flaunt their insides: the grosthetics of metal bones, ragged flesh and skinned horns suggest the underlying torture of tottering on heels. Though we recognize the residuals of footwear, her creations test the human urge to classify, as what we would normally call "shoe" evaporates into the idiosyncrasies of its parts.
