Halfway between art and landscape architecture, the Water Garden of the Japanese architect Junya Ishigami seems straight out of a dream. Designed near the Art Biotop artists’ residence in Japan’s Tochigi Prefecture, this garden is made up of over 318 trees and 160 small ponds. “While the garden is carefully modeled and reliant on technological artifacts, the work is both highly artificial and undeniably natural”, explain designboom, which discovered the project in Junya Ishigami’s studio, and describe the garden as “a living organism that grows and changes by its own inherent dynamics”. Serenity oasis, this green space is both an ode to nature and an invitation to meditation.
