The 59th inauguration of the 46th president of the United States, Joe Bide, was largely unique: the small number of participants sitting far apart in masks; the absence of the outgoing president two weeks after an insurgency he encouraged; the first woman elected as vice president, Kamala Harris. Exceptional ceremonies have been seen in the US, whether in times of war or national crisis. But this one will go down in history: she was also one of the most watched on television. With 33.8 million viewers, alle is in third place after the first Reagan inauguration (41 million) and that of Obama (37 million). A clear sign of the hope that this new administration raises.

Between pop stars testifying to a necessary female empowerment, the first vice-president, concerts organized in the streets by stars and popular enthusiasm, here is a summary in press photos of this memorable day that swept away the past and inaugurated a hopefully better future.
